BY WATER, a play by Vietnamese-American playwright Qui Nguyen. Based
on a true story, TRIAL BY WATER chronicles the voyage of two teenage
brothers from Vietnam to the United States. The engine of their boat
breaks down and the voyage becomes a perilous nightmare when murder
and cannibalism run rampant on the boat as the boys desperately
struggle to survive.

The exhibition features three artists Columbia Fiero, Akiko Kotani and Soon-im Kim, who work in fibers, using unconventional materials such as thread, cloth, and cotton demonstrating how common materials can be used to integrate both Asian and Western sensibilities. In doing so, they touch on a lightness and informality that is physical yet intangible, daring to harness the simplicity of air. Each artist in her own way touch on vital question that will surely have an impact on democratic society.

Jamaica Flux: Workspaces & Windows 2007

Haejae Lee is interested in exploring the conceptual meanings of perfect American home for immigrants in Jamaica, NY. Her intention is to ask three business owners with various cultural backgrounds to describe interiors of the houses that they believe to be the perfect American home. Once materials are collected, her intention was to make paintings with each shop owner inserted in corresponding pictures and place the final pieces in their shops. However, due to lack of public participation, she is now creating a painting in which she appears as imaginary Korean nail salon owner in her American dream home. She is the public and the artist. the painting will be setup on a table in an imaginary store by the entrance to JCAL.
